A Wine Tour of France

France is a very big country to tour. Three weeks will not be enough for such a tour. But in this article we propose a three-day wine tour. When on the way to France, make time to read some wine magazine like Wine Spectator and Wine Bible to remind you of what to expect on arrival.

Val de Loire

Drive to Saumur when you arrive at Paris. This will take you about four hours. There you will discover how old the architecture is compared to the modern capital. You can visit the Domaine de Baumard in the nearby village called Rochefort-sur-Loire. Some of the region’s finest wines are produced here by the Baumard family.

Cognac

The following day, you can drive to Cognac in the Poitu-Charente region. This will take you a couple of hours. Here you can taste “the wine of the gods”, that is cognac in the words of Victor Hugo. French law has it that no other wine except the one produced in this region should be labelled cognac. That is why many producers have their wineries here. The Rémy Martin estate is for tourist regularly from May to September. You will have the chance to enjoy cognac here.

Bordeaux

This is the best part of the tour. Bordeaux is one of the greatest regions in the world when it comes to wine production. Go to Pauillac where the best-loved and first-born wines are produced. Some of these are Château Lafite-Rothschild, Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Latour.

The greatness of the wines from here makes it a certainty that you will meet a lot of tourists here. The tour will cost you about $20 including tasting – and I know you will certainly not like to miss that.

You can the move on to Médoc for your final evening at the Cordeillan-Bages Hotel. The restaurant here is more popular than the hotel itself. There is a lot of wine available with the meals.

It is easy to spend three days in France visiting the wine regions. What you will have to do is to carefully choose the regions you want to visit.
