Acupuncture Points for Bladder Retention
There are many different after effects of general surgery and one of them is something called bladder retention. It is when you cannot pass waste or urinate. This is not a common occurrence and it does depend upon the type of surgery that you had on the chances of this happening.
In most cases the treatment for this condition is self-catherization. Even though this can cause some slight discomfort, the biggest problem is a urinary tract infection. For those that are willing to venture out into something new, acupuncture can be a great option as a cure.
When acupuncture is performed to cure bladder retention, it is usually done in 30 minute sessions once a week. Depending on the cause of the retention will depend where the points will be for the acupuncture. There are 4 points that are used for the procedure.
When you go for your initial visit, the acupuncturist will give you what is called a Four Point Examination. This is to determine, which points you will need to have done, in order to help cure the bladder retention that you are experiencing. Even though the points of interest may be different for each patient, the theory is the same for all of the procedures.
It is important to keep in mind that in order for one to be able to do acupuncture, it is important for one to have a full understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine. By knowing the history of this type of medicine, you are more able to understand the different acupuncture points and what each one means.
Even though two patients may have the same symptoms the treatment may vary. Depending upon the medical problem that the patient is having will depend upon how long the treatment will last. Someone also needs to be comfortable with this type of treatment.
Since acupuncture is still not a widely known source of treatment, people are still a little skeptical on whether or not it will work. With a little faith and following instructions, this type of treatment can be just as effective as going to a doctor.
