Are You In Love With Your Friend?

Falling in love with your friend is tricky business. Problems arise when you do not know what to do in such a circumstance. Neither would you want to be the recipient of unrequited love and nor do you want to lose the friendship. The best thing to do is to proceed with caution.

If you have developed feelings for your friend of the either sex suddenly, do not just go and blurt it out. And also do not behave like a stranger to hide all of those feelings. You will leave your friend feeling highly confused as he or she wouldn’t know what to make out of your peculiar behaviour. Try testing the feelings of your friend carefully.

You might be surprised to see that he or she may also been harbouring romantic feelings for you. But this is tricky. You have to gauge such feelings very carefully, especially if the friend in question is someone very close to you. People often make the mistake of confusing genuine feelings of friendship with that of love.

A good way to proceed would be to invite your friend to simply ‘hang out’ with you for a coffee, or to see a movie. Please do not group your other friends in this; else you will never get a chance to test the waters. Do not act the event out like a date; else you will scare the person away if they just take you as a friend. If you find that your feelings do not match with that of your friend, please do not force the issue. You run the risk of losing a valuable friend in the bargain.

But if your stars are indeed lucky, and you have a hint of your friend having a tiny bit of romanticism for you, then do not waste time. It is time to look past the friendship stage. You have to take advantage of any opportunity you get, to confirm the feelings. Picking the right time for this is essential: this is a decision that may change the rest of your lives, so be sincere and honest. Last but not the least, be prepared for disappointments. You may have eventually misjudged the situation. Try not to lose the friendship, apologize if necessary. And if you have stuck gold, then be prepared to switch from being friends to lovers and enjoy being in love!
