At-Home Hair Removal
November 30, 2009
Many women worry about body hair. They try shaving but hate the stubble and the fact that the hair grows back thicker. Some try waxing but find it too painful and too messy to do at home or too expensive to do regularly.
At home, depilatory creams such as Veet and Nair advertise that their product will remove hair more easily and better than shaving and wax. They also claim that it will increase the time between hair growth and that hair will grow back finer, giving the appearance of less hair.
Do A Spot Test First
When considering testing one of these hair removal systems there are certain things you should do. First, read the directions. Then, test on a small area. Choose an area that can be concealed should you have an adverse reaction. Apply the product to the area and wait three minutes. Wash off with water. Watch the area for about thirty minutes to see if any swelling, rash or redness occurs. If not, it is unlikely that you will develop a rash when the product is applied on other areas.
Use With Care
If your skin passes the test, read the directions again, carefully. Depending on the area that you are removing hair from, the instructions may vary. For example, if you are applying the product to your underarms, you may leave it on for less time than you would for your leg.
When ready, spread the product on the desired area. Set a timer for the appropriate time. Be sure not to go longer than recommended because these strong chemicals can burn the skin quickly. Wash the product off thoroughly. Dry and apply lotion.
Some people notice that the products tend to dry out the skin. Most manufacturers now ensure that their products contain Aloe Vera, a natural moisturizer. This helps with the problem. But even with the Aloe, it is important to moisturize afterwards.
Hair removal cream should not be used on sensitive areas unless otherwise specified. The skin on our face and private areas is too delicate to withstand the abrasive chemicals, even for a reduced amount of time. Never use depilatory creams on your face or privates.
Save Time and Money
While the upfront cost may be more expensive when compared to shaving cream, there is time and money saved in the long run. The hair does in fact grow back finer and it takes longer to grow back than with shaving, meaning there is more time between removals. Depilatory creams are also less messy and painful than wax. This makes them easier to do at home, saving you the trip to the spa or salon.

I have tried several ways and the best thing that’s worked for me is using Silk’n. I have saved so much money, and it really works! It’s save and uses this cool light technology. My best friend told me about it and we’ve both been obsessed.
