Bad Breath Prevention Tips
March 7, 2009
Do you have to cover your mouth when you’re speaking to someone because your breath is just horrendous? You brush your teeth daily, so why do you still have bad breath? Recurring bad breath is known as Halitosis and it can greatly affect your ability to enjoy a productive social life. No one wants to be close to someone with chronic bad breath. Following are some tips which can help to prevent bad breath from ruining your life.
Preventing bad breath starts with watching what you eat and brushing after every meal. When you wake in the morning, the first thing you need to do is not only brush your teeth, but brush your tongue as well. Bacteria forms on the surface of your tongue and brushing helps to remove it. The same steps need to be followed prior to going to bed.
Do not drink anything other than water 30 minutes prior to brushing during the day and at night. Aim to consume six to eight glasses of water daily. Water helps to flush out your system and keep you hydrated.
Avoid eating strong flavoured foods such as onions, garlic and fish. Instead eat fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables. Always clean your mouth after eating and drinking anything. If you’ve been using gum or mints to try to freshen your breath, consider a switch to fresh parsley or peppermint. Gums and mints only mask the odour, while parsley and peppermint combat bad breath.
Refrain from smoking as smoker’s breath is abominable on its own. And remember to visit your dentist regularly so that you can catch and treat any oral diseases that may be causing bad breath.
Bad breath is a big deal. It affects not only the person who is suffering from it but those the person comes in contact with. It may seem like a little thing, but having bad breath can stop you from accomplishing your goals. For instance, what if you have to go on a job interview and speak face-to-face with your interviewer? You can’t sit at the other end of the table nor can you speak with your hand over your mouth. Try following the previously listed suggestions to combat chronic halitosis.
