Beauty Tips On Hair Color

By on September 20, 2011

While hair colour turns those awful grey specks to a deep red or chocolate, in actuality it is a true test of your hair strength. Colour more often than not leaves your hair looking dry, dull and rough.

Days after you put that marvellous hair colour, you hair will end up looking plain drab. Beauty tips and a basic hair care regime will renew the shine and lustre of your hair and keep your hair from getting dry and frizzy.

Don’t Use Too Much Water

Water can easily remove most of the hair colour. If you notice, the maximum fading occurs with water alone and not with shampooing or conditioning. When you use hair colour, it strips your hair of moisture. The moisture which used to leave your hair feeling soft and smooth has a negative effect.

The hair becomes porous and water takes with it some of the colour that you have applied on the hair. No matter how liberally you have applied hair colour, the colour literally goes down the drain. You can however save your hair with these precautions.

Avoid the colour red. Colour molecules of red dye are larger and they tend to come off more easily. Stick to a shade or two darker or lighter than your original colour. Blonde hair in particular also fades out as it gets bleached.

Don’t over-do on the water. One thorough rinse with water will suffice. Try not to wash your hair too frequently. Twice a week works well for coloured hair.

The Water Temperature

Make sure the temperature of the water is bordering on the cool. Hot water will make the dye leach faster and your colour will fade away in no time.

Colour Protecting Shampoo

There is a reason why they have come out with colour protecting shampoo. It is to protect your hair from the harmful effects of hair colour and also to make your hair colour last longer. So use colour protecting shampoo liberally. Brands like loreal are good.

Colour Protecting Conditioner

Retaining the moisture quotient of your hair is vital. Do so with a colour protecting conditioner.A normal conditioner will dry out your hair and the fatty oils of your scalp will not get a chance to get distributed down your hair. Regular use will also create a barrier on your hair shafts that will prevent the colour from fading out.

Condition All The Time

Every time you wash your hair, condition it. Use maximum conditioner on the entire hair length closer to the tips of the hair where maximum hair damage occurs.

When you condition, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and leave on the colour-protecting hair conditioner for some time. Use a coin sized dollop. Allow some steam on your hair that will lock the moisture in.

Use A Hair Mask

To maintain the shine of your coloured hair, use a hair mask once a week. It will help retain the moisture of your hair. You may also think about using a leave-in hair conditioner which works equally well.

Cut Back On Heat

Heat will dry out your hair and make it frizzy. Let your hair air-dry. Liberally apply a hair serum and then blow dry your hair from a distance. Don’t use ironing products on your coloured hair too often.

Hair Care Payoffs

If your hair colour does not coat evenly, blame it on the hair. Damaged hair does not allow colour to appear evenly on hair. So, to maximize results, take good care of your hair.
