Bob Hairstyles

By on March 15, 2011

The bobbed hairstyle’s emergence can be traced to the early 20th century. To be precise bobbed hairstyles became a range in 1915. Irene Castle a famous ballroom dancer was the first woman to go in for a bob hair cut. Soon this particular hairstyle became very fashionable among young women of that era.

For this unique hairstyle, the hair was blunt cut either at ear level or was cut in a way that it fell somewhere between the ears and the chin. In those days bob hairstyles were accompanied by bangs or the hair was simply styled or brushed away from the forehead. The bob hairstyle was more popular among women with fine straight hair than those who had curly or wavy hair.

Currently many celebrities including Victoria Beckham sport bob haircuts.  Bob hairstyles look good on women of all face shapes and not only on the classic oval shaped face. Let us examine how the bob hairstyle can be worn by women with round, long and angular face shapes.

For women with a round or full faces, bob hairstyles help to reduce the facial width and make the face appear longer and leaner. Inverted bobs and A-line bobs work well for round faces. For women with long face shapes, bob haircuts should neither be too long nor too short. The length of the bob haircut should be such that it takes some of the attention away from the facial length.

For angular faces, particularly diamond, square or triangular face shapes, razor cut textured bob will add some softness to the face. A side parted bob works best for these unique face shapes.

Experiment with different kinds of bob haircuts to see which one will suit you the best. Asymmetrical bobs work well for women looking for an alternative hairstyle. A bob haircut which is longer at the jaw line and shorter at the nape is called an angled bob. If you are looking for a bob haircut with a slightly casual yet modern feel to it then  the long bob is the ‘one’ for you.

When the hair is cut shorter at the back and left longer at the front then you get an inverted bob, which is an extremely trendy hairstyle. Hair cut to chin length to create facial fullness is called a layered bob.
