You will be able get color wheel tools that are interactive and also the software from the Internet and this can be used as reference.
By using the color wheel you can easily decide on the mix of colors necessary for painting your accents, furnishings, walls, furniture and accessories. The following tips will be of immense help in going about deciding the scheme for color painting of your house.
Monochromatic color scheme – in this only one color is being used for the entire home décor. You will be able to get different color effects by using tints, values, tones, and shades of the main color you have chosen.
Complimentary color scheme – in this two colors that are positioned diametrically opposite location on the wheel are chosen and their tints, shades, tones and values are used for home décor. For example, yellow and violet can be chosen as complementary colors. You must realize that this is a bold scheme and gives an impressive touch for decorating your home. Schemes that use three different hues of the color wheel are analogous color schemes and they either use three warm colors or three cold colors that are placed close to each other in a color wheel.
Triadic color schemes – in these three colors placed at equidistant or continuously on the wheel e.g. red, blue and yellow with their tints, shades, tones and values are used in decorating the home.
Steps to decide color scheme for home decor
The following steps are useful in deciding the proper color scheme even for beginner.
1. To start with, your color palette should be guided by your favorite pattern. The paint colors for walls which are background areas should be the lightest; big furniture such as doors, windows, cabinets and closets are to be painted with medium colors whereas dark colors should be used on accessories.
2. Choice of color makes dramatic difference to the dimensional appearance of the room. The room looks large with pale and white colors because they reflect light; on the other hand, the room appears cozy and small with dark colors.
3. For a small room, the color of furniture/ furnishings should be the same as the wall since it will give an impression of occupying less space; on the other hand for a large room you could use furniture with dark colors that will create focal points.
