Almost all of us get anxious from time to time. We feel apprehensive, scared, nervous and excited whenever we need to deal with something we are unaware or unsure of. However, if the nervousness and anxiety tend to get over us and disrupt our rational thought processes and actions, chances are there might be more to the issue than plain anxiety.

How can you differentiate a disorder from a normal trait, given the fact that the symptoms for both are nearly the same? Anxiety Disorder is said to affect a person when he/she becomes too intense or anxious to think straight. The prolonged and intense anxiety levels experienced by the individual would tend to disrupt his/her normal way of life.Although there are no specific causes for anxiety disorder, it can be generally classified into the following types.
An individual is said to suffer from generalized anxiety if he/she tends to become apprehensive of a number of things in general. The reasons for anxiety can be as simple as crossing the road or health concerns or as complex as giving an examination or fretting over the future.

Individuals who have generalized anxiety also tend to worry about these things to the extent that they develop physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, nausea and dizziness etc.
In the case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, the individual in question would be highly obsessed with his/her thoughts and would constantly be too preoccupied in trying to relieve his/her stress to notice anybody nearby.
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder usually occurs when an individual is highly traumatized by an incident and becomes stressed and anxious whenever he/she thinks or is reminded of the same. Some individuals tend to totally shun anything and everything linked to the incident that affected them.
They would often suffer from nightmares or flashbacks and would immediately get frightened the moment you mention anything even remotely linked to their incident.
And of course we also have phobias and panic attacks that can be classified into a kind of anxiety disorder. Intense fear of certain things that may not necessarily be dangerous can cause some individuals to either avoid these objects completely or develop cold feet whenever they encounter the things that they fear.
Panic attacks usually occur at the spur of the moment when the individual in question is overwhelmed by a situation he/she does not know how to face. And although harmless, panic attacks can sometimes cause headaches, dizziness, and nausea etc.

As mentioned earlier, the symptoms for normal anxiety and anxiety disorder would be very similar. However, in the case of anxiety disorder, there are a few subtle signs that can let you know whether the individual in question suffers from the issue or not.
Trouble With Sleep
An individual with anxiety disorder would find it very hard to sleep at night. His/her anxiousness would deprive him/her off peaceful sleep and more often than not, he/she would appear sleepy the next day.
An individual suffering from anxiety disorder would never be able to relax and enjoy life. He/she would be too worried about his/her fears and apprehensions to notice even the fine things of life. He/she would remain forlorn and too preoccupied to mingle with friends and loved ones, and would tend to keep to himself/herself for the most part of the day.
In addition to causing restlessness and fatigue, anxiety disorder can cause concentration issues in some individuals. With their anxiety levels at an all time high, these individuals would find it very difficult to think straight, let alone concentrate on tasks or focus on even the simplest of things. They would not concentrate on the work at hand and would become very irritable if reminded about the same.
