Creating an at Home Spa Ritual
January 8, 2009
Traditionally a spa is a place where water based treatments are provided to relax, soothe, restore and heal. Since olden days, people have believed in the power of water to restore and relax you, and make you smell and look better.
Thousands of years ago, spas were the best places to enjoy natural springs of hot, warm or muddy waters of a particular area. Today there are different kinds of spas, with facilities, massage, steam rooms, pools, sauna etc and offer a high range of beauty treatments.
If you have not experienced a spa, well it’s never too late. Don’t travel or spend money by going to a spa, you can create one at home itself.
Few things needed to set the stage for spa treatment at home:
Spa thermal unit: Immerse towels in hot water, wring them, and store in miniature coolers, where they will stay hot for 10-15 minutes.
Spa bowl: keep a plastic or glass bowl ready, for mixing ingredients.
Wrapping sheets: Wrapping sheets help to process the oils, herbs, creams which are applied on your body.
Skin brush or loofah: A skin brush or loofah is a must to exfoliate the skin.
Towels: a lot of towels are required for spa treatment, so keep them handy.
Robes: robes and slippers are very much needed when going for spa treatment.
Cotton swaps or pads: These are needed to remove any product from your face or body.
Scrubs and masks: You can make various types of masks at home using, fruits, vegetables and minerals.
Bath salts: They are used for many different purposes.
Now turn your bathroom into a spa:
Select the time: you should have a few uninterrupted hours for a spa.
Have a CD player in a corner of the bathroom and turn on some soft music.
Steamy bathrooms might cause dehydration, so keep a glass of water nearby.
Massage yourself with some essential oils; made from extracts of roots, vegetables, fruits, flowers etc.
Dim the light or light a scented candle.
Fill the bath with warm water.
Lower yourself into the water, forget everything, relax, breathing deeply for about 20 minutes.
The most important thing is that your mind should be absolutely free. Don’t bring your office work, homework, newspaper etc into your sanctuary. Get away from all of this….just relax.
