Curling Your Long Hair
Born with silky, straight hair, but wish you had long curls? With advances in modern technology, it is now easy to curl your hair. There are two types of curling option: long-term and short-term. Long-term curling options typically require the use of chemicals to alter the hair structure and are best left in the hands of professionals.
Short-term solutions are easy to achieve at home with a little equipment and a little know how. These instructions will help you set your hair using hot sticks, a heated appliance that is used for making curls.
What You Will Need
1. Hot Sticks
2. A brush or comb
3. Styling products including hairspray
What To Do
1. Plug in your hot sticks so they can preheat. You will need about 2 to 3 minutes.
2. While your hot sticks are heating, comb or brush your hair so that it is smooth and free from tangles.
3. Decide what size curls you want and section a strand of hair near your hairline. The larger the strand, the larger and looser the curl. The smaller the strand, the smaller and tighter the curl.
4. Remove one hot stick and place it in the middle of the hair strand. Wrap the end around the hot stick. When that is finished, roll the stick down the strand of hair toward your head. Fasten the stick in place if necessary.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with remaining hair and sticks, moving from the hairline back toward the nape of the neck.
6. For best results, allow the sticks to remain in your hair until cool.
7. After the sticks have cooled, gently unwrap your hair from the sticks and spray very lightly with hairspray.
8. Depending on the results you wish to achieve you can now comb or brush your hair, or simply run your fingers through the curls for a more casual look.
9. Set the finished style with an additional spritz of hairspray.
