If you are pregnant, then there is a fair chance that you are experiencing the uncomfortable feeling of nausea. Many women suffer from nausea and vomiting during their pregnancy. Nausea is caused due to the many physical and hormonal changes taking place in the body during pregnancy.
Nausea is a very common pregnancy symptom and usually not of any concern. The severity of nausea varies from woman to woman.
The problem of nausea can be tackled by following a few simple tips.
Even if you are nauseous, never skip your meals. If you are hungry, the blood sugar levels will drop making you even more nauseous. Eat small and healthy snacks throughout the day. Avoid fatty and spicy foods and stay away from caffeine.
Drink plenty of fluids and keep yourself hydrated. But do not take fluids just before or just after a meal. Also do not lie down immediately after eating. Sit down or walk around for 2 minutes. Smelling ginger is seen to alleviate all the problems of nausea. You can also sip ginger ale throughout the day or have ginger tea.
It is found that having a small snack just before your bed time will help to control nausea, as the snack reduces the feeling of getting up on an empty stomach. Take your own time in getting up from your bed as unprecedented movements can trigger the feeling of nausea. Eating a few crackers, potato chips or biscuits the first thing in the morning is also seen to reduce nausea to a great extent.
Take care not to tire out yourself. Exhaustion is seen to have a negative impact on the body. If possible have a small nap in the afternoon. Don’t stay in stuffy places. The room you are in should have proper ventilation. Also go out for a walk and breathe some fresh air. Performing light exercises also helps in tackling nausea.
Brush your teeth immediately after throwing up. If possible brush after every meal, so that the taste of the food doesn’t linger in the mouth. Also stay away from unpleasant smells. Abstain yourself from smoking and consuming alcohol. Do not take any over the counter medications for nausea. If your nausea is out of control then immediately seek medical attention.
