Depression During Pregnancy
Pregnancy for any woman is something to feel good about; because she is going to be mother or having one more baby. There is no doubt that for many women, the pregnancy period is the happiest time in their life. This is true also because the whole family gets attached to her pregnancy on account of the arrival of a new family member. There is an atmosphere of peace and happiness during this time in the family.
Though, this is not always true of every woman. Pregnancy can cause depression. The depression comes due to physical and emotional issues. Depression is always a dangerous thing and more particularly dangerous when it captures a pregnant woman, because it could hamper the health of both the mother as well as the unborn child.
It is a fact that, to some extent, we all experience a little bit depression; though, when it is the case of a pregnant woman, it becomes a serious health problem. This could lead toward the extreme sadness affecting the daily functioning of the body.
Depression is quite common nowadays in pregnant women. This is true in contrary to the old belief that pregnant women are always happy and cannot be sad. More and more women are found to be depressed during the pregnancy period.
They need to be taken care of more specifically compared to the women who are happy with their pregnancies. The mood change is largely associated with the rapid hormonal changes in the body of the pregnant woman; these can trigger a mood change. Moreover, there are those emotional and psychological issues such as stress, family burden, financial troubles, a recent death in the family, etc.
The family history of depression is always a risk factor for pregnant women. More social and family issues may involve trouble in a relationship, previous miscarriage or loss of pregnancy, unexpected pregnancy and emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. The treatment for depression, psychotherapy is one of the best options. Psychotherapy happens to be safe for both the mother and the baby.
