Diet Tips During PregnancyGetting back your original weight and body shape after pregnancy can be a daunting task that is near impossible to achieve thanks to the new bundle of joy in the house that would leave you with little or no personal ‘me’ time.

And yet, losing pregnancy fat is not that hard a task if done properly. In addition to exercising well, there are certain dietary changes that you can opt for in order to lose weight quickly and effectively.

So here’s a useful guide on ‘how to lose baby weight with diets’ for every new mother out there. Remember that a diet alone cannot help you lose all those extra pounds you gained during pregnancy. You need to combine these dietary changes with appropriate exercises and other healthy practices like breastfeeding to get back your original shape.

Diet Tips During Pregnancy

Break Down Meals

Instead of opting for three large meals (i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner), try opting for smaller, lighter meals throughout the day. Typically this would mean that instead of eating heavily three times a day, you would eat light meals at frequent intervals throughout the day.

Doing so would make sure that your post partum sugar levels remain normal. Breaking down meals would also enable the calories you intake on a daily basis to be divided and distributed throughout the day, thereby making it easier for your body to metabolize them and much more difficult store excess fat arising out of unnecessary calories.

Cut Down On Empty Calories

After delivery, your abdomen would tend to sag for some days. This would be attributed to the fact that the muscles lining the abdomen would take some time to contract. If you go on an bingeing spree during this period, chances are you will fill all those empty spaces with gas and plenty of fatty tissue. Forget about losing weight then!

So avoid eating heavily or consuming foods that contain plenty of empty calories. These would include fast foods and other junk foods like chips, burgers, pizzas etc., and fizzy beverages like sodas.

Opt instead for fresh vegetables and fruits that would provide your body with the essential nutrients it would need to repair itself and take care of the baby. Including dairy products (low fat variety) to your existing diet would make sure that your body receives only the amount of fat it would for normal functioning on a daily basis. Anything above that needs to be avoided at all costs!

Add More Fiber To Your Diet

Fiber rich foods would fill you up faster in addition to making you feel full for longer periods. This would in turn help you curb sudden hunger pangs which you usually took as excuses to binge on your favorite foods when you were pregnant. So make sure you add plenty of fiber rich foods to your diet post delivery. These include foods like legumes, whole grains, fresh produce etc.

Satisfy Mineral Requisition

Your body would require extra amounts of vitamins and minerals to keep you and your baby healthy. So make sure to add foods that are rich in minerals like iron, zinc, and calcium etc. to your diet. These would include foods like chicken, fish, low fat dairy products, and lean meat etc.

Control Your Snacking

It would be hard to give up snacking post delivery, considering the fact that we got used to the habit during pregnancy. And so, even if you find it difficult to curb your snacking habits post delivery, you can more than make up for it by opting for healthier snacks in the form of low fat milk, dried fruits, yogurt, whole wheat crackers, and veggie sticks etc. This would enable you to snack to your heart’s content and actually lose baby weight in the process.

Water And Drinks

Breastfeeding can leave you dehydrated. So make sure you drink plenty of water every day to remain hydrated. Drinking plenty of water would also allow your body to get rid of free radicals and impurities, in addition to regulating digestion. This in turn would make sure that your body gets rid of excess fatty tissue that could prevent you from losing weight after pregnancy.

Although fresh fruit juices can keep your body hydrated, too many glasses of the same could potentially cause you to consume more calories than you might think so. So keep a check on the kind and amount of juice that you drink on a day to day basis.
