Dermatitis is a skin disease with symptoms such as itchiness and inflamation. There are many kinds of dermatitis, and many of its forms still have to be identified.
Contact dermatitis is diagnosed if individuals develop rashes after coming into contact with substances to which they are allergic. Neuro dermatitis is one of the forms of dermatitis that is localized to certain parts of the body. One of the major causes for dandruff and scalp conditions is seborrheic dermatitis.
To find the exact form of dermatitis that is troubling you, you need to consult your doctor. Doctors may study your medical records and take a close look on the symptoms you are suffering from before giving you the final verdict. To determine the correct form of dermatitis to treat, the doctors may have to do a patch test or take a biopsy, depending on what they see when they are doing their tests.
After identifying the exact type of dermatitis you are suffering from, the doctors decide what kind of treatment you need to start. Its important to stop the patient from scratching the affected area, no matter what kind of dermatitis they might be suffering from. The best way to protect the irritated skin from scratching is by covering it with a bandage or some kind of dressing.
Contact dermatitis and neuro dermatitis could be treated by applying hydrocortisone cream on the affected area and covering it with a bandage, or leaving it uncovered if it is otherwise protected. Sometimes doctors may prescribe anti-depressants or medication such as some steroidal creams to fight against the anxiety that can aggravate the dermatitis.
Stasis dermatitis is generally treated by encouraging the fluid not to build up in the affected areas of the leg. This serious condition may also require some surgery of the varicose veins. Antihistamines are one of the mild therapies being used to treat a tropic dermatitis. In contrast, the treatment of perioral dermatitis may require some kind of antibiotics or corticosteroid creams.
With some of the dermatitis conditions, the natural treatments are proven to be more effective than the conventional treatments.
