Different Hair Forms
Hair can be straight, curly, or wavy. This is one of the most important considerations when choosing a perfect hairstyle. Hair is categorized according to its degree of curl; while straight hair has no curl, wavy hair has soft curls and curly hair is very twisted, with a spring-like structure.
Straight hair
Straight hair can run the gamut from fine and thin to thick and coarse. Hair texture can be changed chemically by perming, or mechanically by curling with an iron or curlers. Coloring thin, straight hair adds texture and fullness easily, while thick, straight hair or very coarse, straight hair requires extra time, skill and perming rods to change the texture. Simple, geometric cuts can be adapted to straight hair of any type, while thick hair will require more frequent styling to maintain the desired texture.
Wavy hair
Wavy hair has soft, natural movement and can readily be shaped into any desired style using hairstyling products. Blow drying allows straightening; some mousse and a quick scrunch with a hand impart a curly effect. The appearance of lightly layered hair can easily be altered by adding hair highlights or lowlights using hair colors and shine enhancing products. Many different styles can easily be achieved with wavy hair because of its natural body and definition.
Curly hair
Curly hair often has substantial volume, but is often dull and unmanageable. Whether long or short, it is better to choose a layered hairstyle. Curls can be straightened within limits, and shine can be introduced by the use of various hair care products like brilliantine’s and silkeners. There are commercial straightening products that will relax the curl and make it more manageable. It may be necessary to use heat activated hair straighteners, but repeated use may damage hair, so these products should be used sparingly.
