Easy Tips For Skin Exfoliation At Home
Skin exfoliation is an important aspect of a healthy skin and beauty regime. The skin is the largest organ covering our body and therefore most exposed. The dead skin cells which remain adhered to the outermost skin layer or epidermis needs to be scraped out to let healthy cells grow.
This way it is possible to achieve a very fresh and glowing skin. Exfoliation is a major step in maintaining proper skin health which is important to look young and beautiful. Cleansing, toning and exfoliation are the initial steps to begin facial or spa treatments.
Understanding Exfoliation
The importance of skin exfoliation lies in the fact that skin is the most exposed organ, composed of numerous pores and sebaceous glands that keep on removing toxins through sweat and also collects dust and grime which we can’t see or feel. There are broadly two types of exfoliation that are practiced namely the mechanical exfoliation and the chemical exfoliation.
Mechanical exfoliation includes exfoliating the skin using abrasives and scrubs. The scrubs used for the facial skin should be gentle and smooth like that of coffee or sugar grounds or jojoba beads. Microdermabrasion is also a very effective mechanical exfoliation which may be done with or without crystal.
Chemical exfoliation is done by applying certain enzymes that are effective in loosening the outer skin cells that remain stuck to each other. This method is also applied by the facial peels which gently scrape out the dead cells from the outer skin layers.

The skin keeps on building new cell layers that rise up to the epidermis. This layer is rich in keratin which is a protective layer on the skin. However, the surface skin cells die and gets peeled off to make way for new cell layers.
Sometimes with age or for other reasons the outer most dead skin layer may become uneven and make the face look rough. Therefore, exfoliation is the process of clearing or peeling off the outermost dead skin layer to allow the younger skin layers to surface.
How To Exfoliate At Home
Exfoliating at home is easy provided you have proper knowhow and don’t commit certain mistakes. There remains always a chance of over exfoliation which may make your skin thin and dry. You should know how much exfoliation is necessary for your skin and how to determine it by consulting an expert. It’s better to avoid waxing immediately after exfoliation as new young skin cells are exposed.

Homemade Exfoliating Scrubs
Skin exfoliation at home can be easy as you get various scrubs and facial masks made from natural ingredients. Mud masks, peeling masks, micro-bead face masks, exfoliating gels are some of the options from which you can choose from. There are also home-made scrubs like salt scrub, sugar scrub, baking soda scrub and avocado and cucumber scrub.
Exfoliation requires that you moisturize your skin properly after exfoliating your skin. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing should follow one after another. The skin especially facial skin is very delicate and therefore you must be very gentle with it while scrubbing or applying anything.
It’s better to exfoliate at the end of the day than in the beginning. In the morning the skin remains stiff and after the whole day when you exfoliate and go to bed it is more relaxing and good for the skin. It is easy to exfoliate regularly by just scrubbing your face and body while taking a bath. Always use lukewarm water and never hot water which will make your skin go dry.
