Effects Of Single Parenting
May 22, 2009
This is a single parenting article, which aims at guiding single mothers and fathers, and providing an insight into the world of single parenting. You would be solely responsible for your child’s needs and desires.
Divorced parents might still be getting some kind of assistance from the ex spouse through custody agreements or financial support. Various aspects and effects of single parenting need to be taken into consideration, even in instances where you legally get aid from your ex-spouse.
Imperative Aspects
Single parenting may leave a good or bad psychological impact on the child. The child of the divorced parents may sometimes try to think that he/she was the cause of the divorce causing a great amount of trauma to the child. This is one of the effects of single parenting.
Growing up in a house with a single parent with absolutely no contact with the father or the mother can become very difficult for the child. If the other parent is alive, it may bring questions to the child’s mind such as why has the parent abandoned them and in spite of repeated assurances, he/she may continue to feel the same.
Your child may also try to find out about the other parent and want to know more about him or her. In no circumstances should you ignore your child’s feelings, no matter what feelings he/she displays, make sure you are aware of those feelings, remain very close and attentive, and attempt to understand those feelings.
At times, when you feel things are going out of control or becoming impossible to handle, ensure to obtain help from a psychologist to assist the child to deal with those feelings.
Educational Aspect
Education is a very important and necessary tool. Children experiencing trauma in their family life tend to get low grades immediately after the traumatic situation. The child may feel abandoned if a family is left with a single parent suddenly.
Such children tend to carry the burden of their dejection to school affecting their studies largely. Your child may start avoiding school, missing important elements of education. Be in constant touch with the teachers so that the child does not lag behind. Understanding the core issues of single parenting will help in avoiding and solving them amicably.

Thank you for sharing that. I am recently divorced and always want to make sure the kids emotional needs are met and they are good.
