A person faces stress at numerous occasions in life. The reasons need not necessarily be valid or extreme. Sometimes even simple things may lead to stress in a person. Hence, a person should understand why he/she is stressed and the cause and effects of it.
Stress causes changes in the body and a person may lose sleep. It also causes headaches, emotional instability, poor concentration and memory, moodiness, and irritability.
Weakens Immune system: It is a known fact that over a period of time, stress leads to various health problems in addition to the mental tension. Headaches, stroke, heart attack, memory lapses, stomach infections and sometimes even cold/flu. However, what one does not realize is that stress also leads to hair loss, skin problems, ear problems and affects other parts of the body too.
Poor breathing: Breathing can be affected while you are stressed. It becomes short and rapid as compared to regular breathing. At times, even while sleeping, breathing is irregular and in addition, there may be clamping of jaws and grinding of teeth.
Skin problems: Continued stress leads to a lot of skin problems like acne, itchy skin, rashes, uneven skin tone, dull complexion etc. In the long run, skin might start appearing pale or anemic. The condition gets worse if the individual is already prone to skin problems.
Digestive problems: Being stressed out constantly affects the flow of blood from the brain to the stomach. This creates many problems in the digestive tract. Most common are constipation, diarrhea, and sometimes even spastic colon. If this continues, a person may contract irritable bowel syndrome.
As soon as you notice any change in your behavior like increased irritation, frequent outbursts of temper, worrying unnecessarily over small things, feeling very tired, feeling sick often, memory lapse, low confidence levels etc you need to act immediately.
The first thing is to relax oneself. One can do breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga to calm the mind and regularize breathing. The first step towards curing stress is to realize that you are stressed. Once this has been identified, there are numerous ways to cure it. If required professional help may be sought.
