The other powder is pressed type, which is treated with pressure to give it a compact cake-like form. The compact powders have a dash of oil in their formulae to ensure it sticks together longer, but unfortunately it tends to streak on the face.

For touch up in the afternoon, women prefer to carry pressed type of powder, so that quick finishing touches can be given at office or even in marketplace.  For party makeup, experts say that post-blending of concealer and foundation would benefit the face which should also get a light dusting of a layer of makeup powder over your entire face, as well as eyelids.
Makeup powders should be applied with large, clean, rounded fluffy kind of brushes which casually help dust loose type of powder, and present an even toned finish and natural look to your face.

You should use a brush for makeup application of powder, instead of going for a sponge or puff, as they will put a lot of powder on your face.

The correct way of dusting is to take the full end of brush into loose powder, shake away excess, and brush with up and down motions used for foundation application.

If you are combining the makeup with sunscreen, apply liberally to eliminate extra shine from the face. When thoroughly applied, you will get a non-greasy feeling apart from proper protection from sun.

Apply the powder only after finely blending concealer and foundation, but before you apply eye makeup. A pressed compact that is the same shade as your powder makeup is a quick way to touch up your face especially for women who are extremely busy. Use a cosmetic puff to apply some powder on the areas of the face that have begun to get oily and shiny. It is an easy way to cover up the areas where the previously applied powder makeup has thinned out.
