First Date Tips

By on December 17, 2010

Arranging the first date is often looked upon as an intimidating task. But with a few tips and tricks, you can make sure that your date is a success.

Choosing the location. It is better to keep the first date location simple and low-key. Going for something overtly extravagant might feel out of place and you don’t want to be bothered about which forks to use!

Also avoid going for a movie where there is no scope for conversation. First dates are all about getting to know the person. Also if you are thinking of taking your date for some game, know for a fact that it is to their liking.

All in all, a simple restaurant or a quiet bar is a good choice. You can set the conversation flowing over light snacks and a glass of wine.

Dressing up: Yes, it is very important to present yourself well on your first date. This does not mean you rush to the stores before every first date. Anything you already own will do fine as long as it is clean and ironed and makes you feel comfortable. And choose the outfit in accordance to the place.

You don’t want to end up on the golf field in a little black dress, no matter how eager you are to show it off. And do not dress too provocatively. You might just send out wrong signals.

Conversation: perhaps the most important of all the factors, one which will probably decide your future dating scene with this person. Do not monopolize the conversation. This might make your date feel you are not interested in him/her. But do not sit quietly the whole time either. Strike a balance so that you both get to know each other.

Avoid discussing controvertial topics; politics can definitely wait for later. And you don’t want to burden your date with all your emotional baggage. Your failed relationships, nasty divorce or rotten luck should have no room in your first date conversations.

Ending the date: If you were out on the date with the intention of casual sex, then you can plunge right ahead and take your chances. But if you see a potentially lovely partner, just wait for some more time before making your move. Engaging in sex on your first date is not an ideal way of starting a relationship. A simple kiss is always safe and sweet if you really enjoyed your time together.
