Grooming Tips for a Special Day

December 10, 2009

grooming tipsWhether you have a special dinner or party to attend, or are just having a night out, it is important for you to look good, not only for others, but also for yourself.

Your hair, dress, and makeup should be nothing less than perfect. Here are some tips to looking great for the special day.

Clothes: Choosing the right dress is a huge task that should not be left to the last minute, as the result could be quite chaotic. Choose a dress you will feel most comfortable in, and try it on in advance to make sure the fit is right and the dress is appropriate for the event you are attending.

Make sure you also try on the shoes you want to wear, as they tend to be the most problematic and can spoil the entire evening. If you plan on wearing jeans for a casual night out with friends, ensure they fit right and do not reveal your underwear. Instead, if your jeans are loose, add a belt to your outfit. Make it a style statement with flashy, bling belts. Aim for a classy look.

Hair & Makeup: Next on your list should be hair and makeup. Try out different hairstyles before deciding how to wear your hair. You can look at magazines to see what is in vogue and get some ideas. Choose a style that flatters you, accentuates your best features, while at the same time suits the dress you plan to wear.

Focusing on makeup and hair care does not mean you ignore the rest of the body. Get a waxing done a day or two in advance in case you have an allergic reaction. Your eyebrows too tend to show different skin shades immediately after they are done, so also do them a couple of days in advance. Don’t forget a pedicure and manicure for that overall gorgeous appearance.

On the big day, wash, condition and dry your hair in time to style it. Dry the hair thoroughly; otherwise, it will be difficult to style. Always use a hair-protecting serum before styling to protect your hair from any damage. Too much of it will make your hair greasy, so just apply a little bit. While using a hair iron or dryer, you also tend to sweat, so do not put your dress on until after you finish styling your hair.

Similarly, get your hair done first, and then put your makeup on, as the makeup might run due to the heat of the dryer or curling iron. Apply a base layer of makeup before putting on the foundation, as your make up lasts longer this way.

Once you have completed the full makeup (i.e, the eye makeup, lips, blush), dab some powder over all of it. This step ensures that your makeup stays in place. Finally, before putting on the dress, wipe any sweat you’ve generated off of your body, or it might ruin the dress.
