Hair Conditioner For Healthy Hair
May 25, 2009
Hair conditioners are used to nourish and tame hair, after applying shampoo. Regular use of hair conditioners keeps the hair shiny and flexible. It helps replenish hair and gives it a smooth look. Hair conditioners not only moisturize, they also restore the hair’s natural protective coating after shampooing.
Choosing the Correct Hair Conditioner
Hair conditioner replenishes the natural oils that are stripped away by the detergents in shampoos. Dry, frizzy, curly and coarse hair need conditioners that contain cetyl or stearyl alcohol, silicone or dimethicone, methicones, panthenol, essential oils and botanicals such as jojoba oil, avocado, or shea butter.
Hair conditioners give the hair a temporary boost and can even make damaged hair look healthy. Hair conditioners are also called reconstructors, because they leave a protein coat on the hair, filling gaps in the damaged outer cuticle. Those who have treated hair or colored hair should use conditioners specifically designed for those with processed hair.
The Need to Apply Hair Conditioner
Hair conditioners are similar to shampoos, but they are applied when the hair is dried to set the hairstyle. To apply, rub the hair conditioner on the scalp for a few minutes. Be sure that the conditioner reaches the roots and then let it get absorbed. Wash the hair afterwards, but don’t scrub too hard or it will wash the conditioner off.
How to Apply Hair Conditioner
After gently shampooing the hair, squeeze excess water from the hair. Then gently comb the hair with a wide tooth comb, from the hair roots to the hair end, to remove hair tangles.
Then apply a little conditioner and thoroughly rub the hair with your fingers. Do not apply it to the scalp. After five minutes, gently massage the hair to spread the hair conditioner. Finally, rinse the hair to remove all traces of hair conditioner. Then let the hair dry.
Natural Homemade Hair Conditioner
Though numerous hair conditioners are available on the market, women can also make hair conditioners at home. Homemade hair conditioners are made of fruits, vegetables and natural food items and condition the hair when used properly. Below is an example recipe to make herbal hair conditioner at home.
