Health Hair And Nutrition
February 25, 2009
Who wouldn’t love healthy hair? Whatever the style and fashion trend, healthy hair is always in good taste. Hair is considered healthy when it is even in thickness from root to the tip, and is shiny and lustrous. Girls would love to have hair like Rapunzel and boys would dream of being united with one who has silky, long tresses. So how does one have long healthy silky bouncy hair?
Although all of us know that healthy hair grows from healthy scalp, there are other factors that affect the health of hair:
Overall Nutrition
A balanced diet of vitamins, protein, minerals, carbohydrates, fat, and fibers is essential.
An adequate intake of water can help to flush out toxic substances from the body.
Exercising regularly can invigorate the blood cells supplying nutrients to the hair follicles.
Proteins
Proteins are the building blocks of our body. The immediate effect of protein free diet is reflected by weak and limp hair. Daily doses of protein can be gained from pulses, lean meat, fish, eggs, soybean, cheese, milk and dried fruits.
Vitamins
Classified as A, B, C etc., all types of vitamins are necessary to the human body.
Vitamin A can be found in green leafy vegetables, radishes, pumpkin, carrots, fruits, milk, liver, and fish. A lack of Vitamin A shows in dull dry hair while an excess of it is known to cause hair loss leading to small bald patches.
Vitamins B & C are found in milk, pulses, cereals, yeast, all citrus fruits, and guava etc. and a proper diet of these vitamins can give you thick soft and manageable hair.
Minerals
The essential minerals that are required by the body are copper (found in nuts, raisins & liver), iron (found in fruits, kidney beans, green leafy vegetables), and zinc (found in grains & oysters).
Deficiency of these minerals also has a drastic effect on hair: copper causes premature graying, iron causes brittle hair and increases hair loss, zinc causes rough, brittle hair.
Fibers can be gained through fresh fruits and raw vegetables.
Crash Diet is another fad you should avoid if you like your hair to be healthy and shiny. Crash diets deprive one of all the basic nutrition that the human body needs leading to dull, scruffy lifeless hair. Excess consumption of tea and coffee is not advisable as these prevent cells from absorbing the nutrients. Avoid intake of alcohol, smoking cigarettes, or tobacco in any form.
Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle and be a proud owner of healthy, shiny bouncing hair.
