Hair highlighting is the new thing on the fashion block. They work great and add more life and beauty to your entire look. You do not have to wear the same color all through your head anymore. You can go for different colors of your choice. Highlights, if done in a proper way can add loads of beauty and glamor to your personality.
Types of highlighting
You might not be aware of this but there are different ways to highlight your hair. Foil highlights, hair painting, hair chunking are some of the basic methods. Others that are catching on are the frosted or tipped highlights.
Women with dark hair have many options to highlight their hair. They no longer have to stay dull and boring because they have dark hair. There are several ways you can add color to your hair and hence your life. Here are a few tips on highlighting dark hair.
Select the right color
It is important that you select the right color for your hair, which suits not only your hair color but also enhances your skin tone. You should choose a color that is no more than three shades lighter than the color of your natural hair.
There is a wide range of colors you can choose from. You should first decide the look you want. A dramatic look will demand a bright color selection whereas a subtle look will demand a more neutral color.
If your tresses are a natural brown or black then go for lighter shades of brown, whichever suit you best. You can watch out for reddish brown, which looks great on dark black hair. If you cannot decide on the color then the best thing to do is try it on a few strands of hair and then decide.
Select the right hairdo
You should highlight according to the way you wear your hair. Highlights add style and glamour to any hairdo if done in the right way. For example, highlight a few front strands if you have a bob. Bobs with bangs are a great look when you highlight the bangs.
You can go for coloring the upper portion or the tips or even the crown area. If you keep your hair lose then you should try to highlight the ends, they look especially great if your hair are curly.
In addition, decide on whether you want a permanent or semi-permanent look. In any case, do not forget to visit your stylist for regular touch-ups to keep the glamour on.
