Dark under arms can be very embarrassing as they leave you with very limited clothing options. You cannot wear short sleeved tops, dresses and sleeveless tunics and blouses. Dark underarms are aesthetically unappealing and may further aggravate due to bad odour, friction and sweating.
Hormonal imbalances, poor diet, excess weight, poor hygiene and use of deodorants are some of the reasons for dark underarms. While there is no sure shot cure for them, you can reduce the pigmentation with the help of some of these home remedies.
Common Home Remedies For Dark Under Arms
Rub the juice of a lime on your underarms and wash off after some time. Lime will help to reduce odour and will also make you underarms lighter.
Rub some yoghurt mixed with lime juice on your underarms. The yoghurt has a cooling effect and will reduce irritation and itching, while the lime juice acts as a bleaching agent.
Rub some vitamin E enriched oil like almond oil or coconut oil. This will soothe irritated skin in the underarm area and will also keep your skin smooth, thus reducing friction. With less friction there will be lesser chances of having dark under arms.
Cucumber and Turmeric Juice
Rub the juice of a cucumber with a pinch of turmeric and apply this all over your under arm skin. Do this for 2-3 weeks. It will give you tremendous relief from dark and unsightly under arms.
Mix a pinch of baking soda to warm water and have a bath with this water to reduce the appearance of pigmented under arms.
Regularly rub some gram flour with lemon juice over your armpits to have soft and clear underarms.
Get rid of excess flab which leads to bulky underarms. Bulky arms create friction especially when you wear sleeveless. This friction leads to acute skin darkening. So make special efforts to get rid of unwanted weight.
Dab liberal amounts of medicated powders like nycil which reduce friction and protect your under arms from darkening and sweating.
Restrict The Use Of Deodorants
Go slow on the use of deodorants. Deodorants have harsh chemicals that can cause excessive skin darkening and irritation.
Follow Proper Hygiene
Make sure you bathe twice a day during hot summer months.Use anti-fungal powder to relive friction and irritation in the under arm area. Wear loose cotton clothes to prevent your underarms from sweating excessively.
Take a few orange peels and sun-dry them for a few hours. Now grind the rind of an orange to form a smooth powder.Mix this powder with milk to form a smooth paste and liberally apply this on your under arms. The orange peel acts as a bleaching agent and reduces pigmentation on your under arms.
Eat a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fibre. Avoid eating fatty and oily food which cause the body to sweat excessively. Keep your under arm area as dry as possible.
Air them regularly and sit in air conditioned rooms especially during hot summer months. Get yourself checked for hormonal disorders which may cause your under arm area to darken.
