How to Apply Concealer And Sport a Flawless Complexion
July 7, 2010
Concealers are generally the only cosmetic that most women prefer to use along with powder as they help them to even out the facial skin.
Concealers help in camouflaging the facial imperfections and hiding dark circles and blemishes. Concealers must be applied with a brush that has a fine tip and blended well to balance out the complexion. Yellow based concealer and translucent powder are the perfect combination for most skin tones.
Concealers that contain mineral oil and have a high pigment level stay on the face longer and efficiently cover the spot. Always check the shade of the Concealer in sunlight to ensure that it goes well with your skin colour as this will blend well and disappear in the skin, hiding the affected spot effectively.
Let’s have a look at some easy tips to remember while applying concealer:
Use yellow coloured eye-shadow with the concealer to cover your under eye circles effectively. Adding green or blue coloured eye shadow can help in masking broken capillaries and ruddy skin tones.
For camouflaging pimples, choose a yellow-based concealer (high in pigment level) that goes well with the shade of foundation. Using a pointed brush, slowly apply the concealer and slightly blend it around the edges with your fingers. Use loose powder to set it. Concealer pencil is also a good option.
Unless absolutely necessary, do not try to cover pigmentation and freckles as this requires a very heavy layer of concealer and can make you look worse. Use a cream based concealer (one shade lighter to your foundation) on a well moisturised skin and finally use loose powder to set it. Add more glamour by gentling dusting some skin coloured shimmer powder.
While using concealers, special care needs to be taken in case of some sensitive areas of your face like the outermost corner of your eyes, corner of your mouth and inside of your nose bridge.
A creamy concealer with a matt finish and medium pigment level can help in eliminating dark circles under the eyes. Apply some silicone based silky make up primer before applying the concealer as this effectively masks the spot, smoothes the lines and hydrates the skin.
Yellow-based concealers help in covering birthmarks and scars. Apply a thin layer of matt primer just before using a dry concealer (with high pigment level) to cover the scars. A lighter shade of concealer for raised scars and a darker shade for indented scars are recommended. Use loose powder to set it.
Use a yellow based concealer with high pigment level to cover broken capillaries. Use a fibre brush with a pointed tip for accurate application. Use your finger tips to press concealer and then set it with loose powder.
