How To Avoid Sweating So Much?
November 25, 2009
All guys sweat and some more than others. Construction workers and athletes at work are among those who do not worry about it much. But let us face it, they are the minority.
The rest of us, depending how much we sweat, do have to care. Fortunately, there a few tips that can help deal with excessive sweating.
Good Fabrics If You Sweat
Some fabrics simply breathe better than others. Most notable are those made of natural fibers, such as cotton and wool, depending on the season.
Check the tags. One-hundred percent cotton or wool is the best for breathing. There are also blends which are designed to breathe well and still stay wrinkle resistant.
Bad Fabrics If You Sweat
If heavy perspiration is an issue, even within the realm of natural fibers there are some bad fibers and fabrics. Stay away from silk even though it is natural. Corduroy (from cotton) and flannel (from wool) should be avoided. All synthetic blends and blends with high synthetic content should be avoided unless they are one of those formulations that are specifically made for better breathing.
Colors Make a Difference
Fabric choice is important but not the only area to consider. White and very light colored fabrics are good, as they do not show sweat rings as easily as mid-range colors do. Also, black and very dark are in the same category. Light colors will quickly get darker when wet. Patterning too can help hide sweat marks and rings.
Layers, Fits and Weights
Sometimes an extra layer actually helps. The closer to your skin the better breathing the fabric should be. Underwear, for example, should always be 100% cotton, and never silk. Clothes should fit loosely in order to promote air flow around your skin.
When it is cold you may have to go heavy, especially on the outer garments but try to fit the garment to the conditions. Try to select an outer garment weight that keeps away the cold but does not overdo it.
Sweat Stains
With planning, and a little luck, you may avoid at least some of the problem. However, eventually you will have to know how to properly launder out sweat stains. There are many solutions. Find out which one (or combination) works best for you. Some stains come out better in the wash if the garment is cold water soaked first.
Others use the cold water cycle with a small amount of vinegar added in. A fourth of a cup should do it. Still others say that hanging clothes in the sun naturally bleaches sweat stains out. Find out what is best for you. Generally, cool to moderate drying temperature is better than hot. Always check the label for the proper care instructions for your particular garments.
If you sweat a lot, you surely use an antiperspirant to reduce the problem. But know that sometimes it can add to it since it can leave a film deposit on your clothes. Be certain to let your antiperspirant dry fully before dressing.
Sweating Is Normal
If you sweat a lot, you already are aware of the many problems. You cannot escape them completely. However, choosing the right fabrics, maintaining the proper fit and correctly caring for your garments will go a long way toward stoping the problem for you.
