How To Cut Back On Watching TV

By on July 8, 2011

The television is popularly called the idiot box. This is a blessing as well as a major disaster for all those who are continuously glued to it for long monotonous hours. The television has become a great companion for all those people who are lonely.

If the television is greatly acclaimed for being a source of facts and figures, on the other hand it is also a great promoter of ego and dangerous ideas of which I will substantiate as we go further. In the world of today, television has become a major source of idle entertainment as a result of which a lot of creativity and geniuses in various sectors of achievement has seen a setback.

Habits And Television

Cutting down the habit of watching television to an extreme point of necessity could be worthwhile in nurturing ones talent and time. Like a smoker finds it difficult to quit smoking, it is unbearable for a viewer to lessen the practice of associating with the idiot box. For a viewer to stop watching a particular show would be like being cut off from the world, now because the viewer has synchronized his thoughts and living in a similar manner like the show/program. In spite of all these problems I would like to suggest some ways to cut down the practice of watching television. One needs to be fully focused, determined and willing to make that change.

Suggested Ways To Cut Down Watching TV

Anything done continuously for two weeks becomes a habit and this develops into your charter which moulds into your personality and finally an output on show which is being judged by everyone”. If we follow some steps with full determination, we can cut down the watching on television. Begin small Try to minimize watching the T.V for may be once a week and then keep increasing as time goes by. Do not keep yourself tuned with every show of every channel. Involve yourself in something by getting hold of your likes and preferences and try to practice and develop it in a certain period of time. It may be music, drama, art, writing, reading or anything recreational for the matter of fact.

This will have a psychological effect on the brain. When we start getting nearer to the things that we once loved, automatically temporary distractions like television will vanish in time. Some may find it hard to spend much of their time in doing anything apart from being stuck to the television. For them I would suggest to contact the cable operator or satellite provider and minimize the number of entertainment channels. Compare the time that you are watching the T.V with those long awaited and unfulfilled dreams. A sudden rush may help to bring a positive change in doing something rather than sitting by the Idiotic Box.

Select a span of time within which you will have finished watching your desired show. Try to avoid the TV as frequent as ever. If you think wisely, is their actually an inch of true satisfaction in things that they show on television. Reality shows contain everything apart from reality; Serials are an exaggerated production of real life. many programs barely have sense and yet we watch it. May be that is because some lack company and that is why the television becomes their only friend. The suggestion is Go and make friends and communicate with people. As it is the television has some adverse effects when viewed for long hours of which a slight gist is given below.

Adverse Effects Of Television

An unknown author has said “Television has changed a child from an irresistible force to an immovable object”. This statement will be very much corroborated by parents and guardians who find it extremely difficult to get their children to some serious studies or recreational activity apart from watching television. On a self experienced observation, it is seen that nowadays during the evening my society park is very deserted and has assumed a lonesome expression. This is rather contrasting since that very park was the prime source of disturbance a couple of years back. Society parents have confirmed that this is a cause of television. I very much agree that programme screened on the silver screen are quite delectable at times, but as the truth goes ‘junk food may be tasty but is harmful for the body’, the same goes for television. Excess intake of television leads to mental and vision problems. The answers to a person’s violent nature or overtly sentimental character are often reasoned due to watching television. This fact can be confirmed even well by psychologists. In India daily soaps and serials are said to be an influential factor for rivalries and tufts at home in between members of the family. It is witnessed that when two friends meet after a long time they begin to discuss a particular serial and how it is similar to the problems in their home. Televisions, in spite of their good side tend to be futile in the long run in terms of beneficiary effects. It infuriates violence, communal rivalry and implants various sources of dangers as a result of reality shows.

A Change For The Best

A change that requires concern of every individual is the developing superiority of machines over human beings. We had created them for easing our work, but as days are passing, they are tending to make us lazy and idle. If addiction to a drug is injurious for health, so is an addiction to a machine or gadget. They cause mental illness and all sorts of other ailments that are often incurable for life. Everything has its own limits which should be maintained by everyone. An inch out of the boundary limit invites trouble. It has been noted and witnessed at many occasions all over the world. “If you limit your choices only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is compromise.”There is a world beyond the screen of a television. Be proud and lucky to witness it. Life is given by God only once. Enjoy it every day. Avoid Television, Invite Longer Life, And Stay Happy.
