How To Get A Gel Manicure

By on March 26, 2012

ManicureWhile manicures make your hands look pristine and beautiful, most women counter chipped nail polish and broken nails within 3-4 days. Another common problem with routine nail polish is that it takes ages to dry especially when you put two coats. There are very high chances of the polish getting smudged no matter how careful you are. In such cases, getting a gel manicure comes handy.

Tips To Get A Gel Manicure

How Does A Gel Manicure Work?

The gel manicure is like any routine manicure. Your nails are cut, filed, cleaned and soaked in a nail bath. The cuticles are pushed back and cut with a cuticle remover and the nails are buffed. A hand scrub and a good hand massage follows this. The only difference is the quality and texture of the nail polish that is applied.

In a gel manicure, gel nail paint is applied to each nail. The first coat is applied and is allowed to dry for 30 seconds followed by the second coat. This too is allowed to dry. The beauty of a gel manicure is that the nail paint dries up within a few seconds. You can carry out your normal tasks without worrying about the nail polish chipping or smudging. The nails also look shiny, polished and beautiful which adds to the overall beauty of the manicure.

Advantages Of The Gel Manicure

The shiny effect of the gel based nail polish lasts for about two weeks. There are less chances of the gel nail paint chipping as compared to the normal nail polish.

The Downside

There is one major downside to the gel manicure. Unlike normal nail paint, which is easily removed with cotton and acetone, the gel nail paint requires a special nail paint removal kit, which you have to buy along with the manicure. You have to soak your nails in cotton dipped in acetone and cover each nail with an aluminium foil.

This process may have to be repeated 3-4 times before the nail polish comes off completely. The process is extremely lengthy and cumbersome. The excess acetone can also completely dry out your nails. At times, crusty bits of the nail paint remain on the nail and they may have to be filed off when you go for your next manicure.

Why Is It Popular?

It is popular in some places and frequently chosen by women customers because of the long lasting effects of the gel nail paint. The nail paint is a special nail polish that shines and produces a chip resistant finish. Women who are getting married can go in for a gel manicure, as the effects of the nail paint will last you right through your honeymoon.

The beauty of the nail paint is that the top coat can be removed without disturbing the lower coat. This allows beauticians to dabble with different colours and designs to give your nails a beautiful and stunning finish. If you are the kind who is practical and fuss-free, then the gel manicure is not for you as the nail polish removal takes a lot of your precious time.
