How To Make A Button Snowman

We often have lots of spare buttons at home and these can be used to create the look of snow on a snowman during the festive season of winter.These snowmen are kept on window sills or on top of the mantle for display.

You can also keep an adorable button snowman under your Christmas tree along with the other decorations and gifts. It is quite easy to make a button snowman. You can also let your children help you while you are making a button snowman and let them enjoy the fun of creation.

Making A Button Snowman

The following points will tell you about how to make a button snowman.The things that you will need for making a button snowman include – 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch Styrofoam balls; a dowel; toothpick,twigs, assorted buttons, black embroidery floss, 5 large black buttons, 2 small white buttons, one small black button, a red plaid ribbon and a small straw broom.All of these are easy to collect and inexpensive.

Sewing The Styrofoam Balls

The first thing that you will need to do is to create the shape of a snowman with the help of the three Styrofoam balls. The 4 inch ball is placed at the bottom, the 3 inch ball on top of the 4 inch ball and the 2 inch ball on top.

You can join the balls with the help of the dowel. To make the snowman stand, you can trim a small slice off from the bottom of the 4 inch ball to make the bottom flat.

Sticking White Buttons

The next step in how to make a button snowman is to stick the white buttons onto the Styrofoam balls. For doing this, you need to gather the white button and get a small dish of glue.Dip the backs of the buttons in the glue and paste them onto the snowman.

Make Eyes, Mouth And Nose

Next, take the two small white buttons for the eyes and sew a cross through them with the black floss. The small black button is to be pasted in place for the mouth of the snowman.  Take the toothpick and paint it orange. Insert the end of the toothpick into the Styrofoam for making the nose of the snowman.

The Hat And Arms

To make the hat for the snowman, you need to glue 5 or 6 large pieces of black buttons to the top of the head of the snowman. You can also glue a dew black buttons vertically in a row on the bottom Styrofoam ball to create the look of a coat on the snowman.

For making the arms of the snowman, insert the twigs onto the sides of the second Styrofoam ball.Place the mini straw broom onto one of these twigs to suggest that the snowman is holding onto it.

Finally,the last step in how to make a button snowman is to tie the red plaid ribbon around the neck to complete the look. The snowman is now ready to be placed for display.
