How To Make A French Twist
The French twist is a classic and versatile hairdo, which is ideal for cocktail parties and formal balls. It is one of the easiest and simplest hairstyles to do, yet it looks extremely chic and classy.
The best part about the French twist is that it looks good on long as well as medium length hair. Here is a step-by-step process of making a French twist.
How To Make A French Twist
Wash And Condition Your Hair
Wash and nicely condition your hair. Let it air dry or use a low intensity hair dryer for quick drying. Now brush out your hair well so that there are no knots and tangles in the hair.
Backcombing
With the help of a paddle brush, divide your hair into large sections. Brush out each section and gently backcomb it. This helps to give volume to very thin hair. Do not back comb too vigorously. Backcomb each section thoroughly.
Smooth Out The Sections
Now gently smooth out the sections with the help of the brush. Make sure you do not undo the backcombing. It will have to be done with a very light hand.
Brush To One Side
Now start to brush your hair gently to one side. Make sure your hair is nice and smooth so that it looks sleek and shiny.
Pin It Up
Once the hair has been brushed to one side, pin it up to that side with bobby pins. Pin them straight up. Use as many pins as you like so that the hair stays in place.

Gather the hair into your hand. Now put your thumb in the centre and wrap the gathered hair around your thumb, creating a twist. Secure the twist firmly in place with the help of bobby pins. Use as many bobby pins as needed.

Hair Spraying
Hair spray is necessary so that the hairstyle stays in place. Make sure you spray your hair with generous dollops of hair spray so that the hairstyle is sealed in place.
The Pony Tail French Twist
This French twist is slightly different from the one explained above. Wash, shampoo and condition your hair and dry it with a hair dryer. Spray some voluminizing serum on your hair. Now make a low ponytail and secure it with a band at the nape of your neck. Start twisting the pony from the bottom.
Twist it upwards and tuck it under by securing it with bobby pins. Seal the twist with some styling wax. Pull out some loose tendrils of hair on your face to soften the look if it is looking too harsh. You can also have a side swept French twist for a different look.
The French twist is very simple. You only need to practise hard to get the look right. It may be difficult to get it right on your own but you can ask a stylist to help you out. This looks works on medium to long hair. Make sure you have lots of bobby pins and hair spray to perfect the look.
