How to Prevent Acne

By on March 3, 2010

Everyone with bad acne knows that the skin is very sensitive. As a teenager I had horrible acne.

I tried almost every skin treatment that could be found in the drug store. Not only was my skin horrible, most of my friends did not have this problem. It made me feel terrible. After years of searching I found some tried and true techniques for keeping my skin clear.

Choose the Right Products
Buy products that do not contain alcohol and have good nature-made ingredients. You may want to rotate between products that have been found to work in different parts of the year. Your skin may need slightly different treatment in the summer than it does in the winter.  Do not purchase treatments that include paraffin, petroleum or alcohol in their ingredient list. Good ingredients are things such as bentone gel and clay.

Clean Your Face Habitually
Be careful to clean your skin every morning and every night. It is good to start clean and end clean. Those with less oily skin may be able to cleanse once a day, in the evening. Use a gentle face soap that contains no fragrance or dyes. These ingredients are only irritants to sensitive facial skin. It is also beneficial to use a pore cleaning mask once a week or every other week depending on your skin type.

Be Careful About Makeup
Any makeup you wear should only be for the duration of the event. Wear it for the day or occasion and then wash it off as soon as you get home. You may want to forego wearing foundation on a daily basis. Acne prone skin needs to breathe and not be covered every day with makeup. When you do wear makeup, choose a brand that is specifically for acne prone skin. Mineral makeup also does not clog the pores and cause breakouts.

Eat Healthy and Drink Water
Maintain a healthy diet. Not receiving the right amount of nutrients and water will make your skin go haywire. Greasy foods that are high in fat and sugar will only exasperate your skin problem from the inside. Having a healthy body will make maintaining healthy skin much easier.

More Skin Care Tips
Tan with caution. Tanning is wonderful but it is not good for the skin. Try not to put your sensitive skin under undue stress. Do not touch your skin with your hands. Your hands are too oily and dirty for the skin on your face. Keep small circular cotton pads in your cosmetic bag for touching your face throughout the day.
