How To Stay Slim During Pregnancy
October 22, 2009
Putting on weight during pregnancy is nothing unusual. As the child in the womb grows, the mother puts on weight. The belly grows; her breasts also start to grow because milk producing glands become active and many hormonal changes take place in the body.
By putting on weight, the discomfort for the pregnant woman increases. The discomfort can be controlled if she stays slim without affecting the growth and the health of the baby.
It is possible for her to stay slim. Here are some suggestions which if followed, would help the pregnant woman to stay slim:
1. Comfort eating: Some pregnant women are in the habit of munching some food, say cake or chocolate when they are in a relaxed mood. In fact, at this time they may not be hungry. Adding these extra calories when there is no physical exercise or movement will add more fat and she would become fatter. In fact, such eating may not be even conducive for the growth and the health of the child. Such comfort eating should be reduced or stopped.
2. Healthy food: This is yet another important factor a pregnant woman should understand. Eating deep fried foods like chips or chicken or mutton or sweets, cheese, etc. will add more weight. In fact, the pregnant woman may not be in need of so much of fat for her body.
Instead, it would be good if she shifts her food to more of salads, fruits and green leafy vegetables, etc. Here, the suggestion is not to reduce the intake of food, but it only involves eating a different type of food. While taking food, the pregnant would do well to think of the health of the child. She would do well also if she takes more liquids. She can also take some dry fruits if required.
3. Stay active: A pregnant woman requires some rest. This is true. But it does not mean she must not work. In fact, if she keeps herself active it tones up her general health condition. She can take to walking, do some household work, take to some yoga, (under the care of a yoga instructor) etc.
One important factor is that the pregnant women should not overdo any of these. Keeping in mind the health of herself and her baby in the womb, she has to decide on the above points. Of course she has to take the opinion of the gynecologist also.
