April 20, 2009
An often-heard complaint is the appearance of a white creamy foreign matter appearing on the lips. On its being pulled out, lips become red and cause irritation. This white substance is dead and dried up skin.
People with dry skin are prone to develop this disorder of the skin. The dried skin generally gets collected around the corners of the mouth. In addition to being uncomfortable it presents an unhealthy sign and spoils the appearance of the wearer. In extreme cases it may be accompanied with a foul smell too.
Apart from being an unpleasant sight, the continuous licking of your lips is unhealthy. People with dry skin tend to believe that by frequently licking their lips they are likely to provide moisture to those. On the contrary, continuous licking makes the lips still drier, and the cycle of their getting dried up continues.
A very basic reason for continuing to have dried lips is acute deficiency of Vitamin B. It is desirable to get a few pathological tests done and make sure if it is due to lack of this particular vitamin. If that were so, consult your physician to know the most suitable prescription that may go well with the rest of your overall good health.
Apart from medication it will be a smart idea to surf the net and learn the natural foods that have this vitamin in abundance. Such fruits and vegetables should form a part of your diet.
Remedial Measure
The best and most conveniently available natural treatment for such lips is application of mustard oil. From the tip of your finger, apply a drop or two of this oil. A continued application is sure to give positive results. Well, mustard oil has a pungent smell. Using it a few hours before retiring for the night should take care of that.
You can also try a homemade scrub to get rid of dry lips. Dissolve a spoon of sugar in just enough quantity of honey. To this mixture add a few drops of coconut oil. Apply this mixture on your lips. A continued application of this scrub leads to healthier and smooth looking lips.
Make sure to cover lips with a lip balm after having scrubbed them. Another helpful measure is to apply a lanolin rich lip balm to keep your lips moistened.

Using vaseline would worsen your lip color to black or brown. So better use ghee or melted butter instead of vaseline.
