How To Tell Your Spouse You’re Pregnant
March 7, 2009
You’ve both dreamt of the big day. The day when you can tell your partner that you’re having a baby. Pregnancy is one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life. While some superstitions tell the mother not to announce her pregnancy until she has completed her first trimester, it’s not easy to keep something like this a secret. And besides, the woman’s partner should know as he will be just as excited.
Here are some fun and creative ways to let your partner know that the big day has finally arrived. You may choose to wait to tell friends and family members but you should tell your partner as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed. If you can contain your excitement and refrain from blurting out, “Honey, I’m pregnant!” then you can have a little fun by trying one of these methods.
One way you can tell your partner that you’re pregnant is to treat them to a romantic dinner. Set the table for three instead of the usual two. Use baby bowls and baby Sippy cups. Serve a full meal of baby themed foods such as baby-back ribs, baby carrots, applesauce, and juice. For dessert, set out a plate of teething cookies made for babies. See if your partner gets the message.
Or at the end of the day, settle down to watch a movie. Pick up the movie ahead of time. Make sure to select a baby related movie such as Nine Months or Junior. Write a note that says “I’m pregnant” and slip it in the movie case. Have your partner open the case to play the movie and let them read the note.
Buy your partner a gift. That will immediately pique their curiosity. When they open the gift, they will find a custom made t-shirt that says “Daddy” on it.
Incorporate the pregnancy message into your daily activities. In the evening, draw a bubble bath for your partner. Before he enters the bath, write a note telling him you are pregnant and put it in a baby bottle. When he gets into the bathtub and feels around the bubbles he will find the baby bottle.
Order a cake and some balloons that have, “Congratulations on Your Pregnancy” written on them. Place them in the house for when he comes home. When he sees them at first he may think that you are hosting a baby shower. Tell him that you are and that the shower is for us.
Send him a picture in the mail. Take the sonogram and write a baby’s name that you have both agreed on on it. Put it in an envelope and mail it to him.
Breaking the news of pregnancy is definitely fun and exciting. Just take it easy on your partner. Make the announcement in private. He may need a few minutes to digest the new information.
