Immune Support Supplements
Colostrum
During the first 72 hours after birth and before the mother’s mammary glands begin to produce milk; they produce a certain fluid, which is the primary provider of immune and growth factors to the newborn. This pre-milk fluid is termed as colostrum. It is necessary to insure the health and vitality of the newborn.
Significance of Colostrum
As a child, it was so much fun getting wet in the rain. But as we grow older, it seems that even though we want to have such fun, it is not possible because we just are not strong enough to fight the cold and flu. The reason that this happens is that as we age, our immune system grows weaker. We lose the immune and growth factors in our body as time goes by. Our skin begins to sag, our body seems to be losing energy and our muscle reduces as our body fat begins to build up.
This is the time that we start our search for the “fountain of youth”, which so eludes us. It is at this point that colostrum can be a lifesaver for us. Published reports of medical science claim that bovine colostrum can be used to possibly replace the growth and immune factors that are responsible for our youth.
History of Colostrum
Bovine colostrum may seem to be a discovery to most of us, but in fact, it is not so new. It has been used worldwide for a long time.
In India, it was used in the dried form, which the milkman delivered. The ancient gurus and Ayurvedic doctors have documented the healing and therapeutic value of colostrum. It is not only India that has managed to realise it’s importance, but also the Scandinavian countries have long been enjoying it as a delicious pudding and dessert topped with honey. And they have been doing this for hundreds of years to celebrate the birth of calves and good health.
