Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hairs seem to pop up on occasion and can be a little painful. Both men and women are susceptible to getting these and if you have curly hair, it can be even more of a problem.
Under the chin and the in front of the neck are the usual problem areas for and men. Unfortunately, women tend to get them in the bikini area, OUCH! The armpits and front of the neck are also places that women get them.
On occasion, an ingrown hair can become infected and will become painful. If you get them often, it can not only make you feel uncomfortable about your appearance but it can also affect your daily activities and job.
If you are prone to ingrown hairs it could mean that you are shaving too close. There are ways to get a better shave and avoid those nasty ingrown hairs. First off, it is important to remember the grain of your hair. You need to shave with it and not against it. You also need to remember that you don’t need to press hard against your skin. Use the proper razor and move light and easy on your skin. You won’t need to press hard with the right shaving equipment.
If you shave in the shower, let the water soak your skin for awhile. This will help to open your pores for a better shave. Also, be sure to use shaving cream and not soap. Soap dries out your skin and make for a horrible shave. If you don’t shave in the shower, be sure to shave after the shower. If you find that you bleed after you shave, this is a sign that you pressed to hard. Use a light touch.
Other methods of shaving such as waxing and plucking can also cause ingrown hairs. This is because the hairs cannot find a way out of the skin when they are trying to grow back. Ladies, think about this the next time you go for that bikini wax. Laser hair removal is better than waxing or plucking. So, if you have problems with ingrown hairs, consider your options before picking up the razor.
