Macular Degeneration
The macular is the nerve that goes from the optic nerve to the brain. It records and sends the images that we see and is part of the retina. Macular degeneration is when this communication nerve has a breakdown and cannot send the images to the brain.
If this happens to you, you will not be able to see small and fine lines, you won’t be able to read from a page and you may not even be able to recognize someone that you know. Age related macular degeneration has two forms. These are dry and wet.
The dry version does not cause as much destruction as the wet version and is also the more common of the two. This is because the wet version means that fluid and blood is actually leaking into the retina. Several different things can put you at risk, which include your age, smoking, hypertension, family history and your cholesterol level.
If you start to experience blurred vision, lines in your vision, or blurred spots, seek the attention of a medical professional right away. A simple vision test will be able to determine if you have this or if it is just plain aging.
There just cannot be enough said for a healthy diet and exercise program. This can help to prevent you from getting this. Certain foods and vitamins, such as vitamin E, beef, milk, yogurt and eggs, will help to eliminate the free radicals in your body. This in turn will help to keep you healthy and strong, which includes your eyes.
As for a cure, there is none. This is why it is important to start out healthy now instead of trying to wait and do the right thing when you get older. If you are diagnosed with this disease, you can slow down the pace by switching to a healthier diet and adding some exercise to your daily routine.
Get regular eye check ups and talk with your doctor if you have any concerns. This is the best preventative medicine that you can have. Your doctor and a healthy diet is your best defense.
