By on September 18, 2010

It has always been challenging for women with sensitive skin to find out the right kind of makeup. If you have sensitive skin then you have to extra care while shopping for your cosmetics. Products which can cause irritations, skin dryness or problems like allergies are to be avoided completely.

Some guidelines can be followed for applying makeup on the sensitive skin.

The makeup used should be hypoallergenic and non comedogenic .This means the cosmetics should not cause allergies or clog the pores on the skin. Also do not resort to water proof products, as they eliminate sebum which conditions and protects your skin.

Always remember to cleanse and moisturize your skin before applying makeup. Use a moisturizer which doubles up as a sunscreen also.

Women with sensitive skin should use powder foundations as they contain fewer preservatives. Since powder foundations aren’t water based, they do not promote bacterial growth. This greatly reduces the chances of skin infections.

If you want to use liquid foundations, select those enriched in silicone as they won’t cause acne or irritations. Avoid matte foundations which are oil based. Also select skin friendly blushes in light pinks which will compliment your foundation.

For people with sensitive skin, the skin on the eyelids will be extremely prone to allergies and break outs. Therefore you have to be very particular in selecting the cosmetics for eye makeup.

Colorful eye makeup looks stylish and beautiful. But it is not at all recommended for people with sensitive skin. Colorful mascaras, eye shadows and eye liners, with their pigments and preservatives are highly prone to cause allergic reactions.

If you have sensitive skin, stick on to wax-based eye pencils which are black in color. Black is found to be the least allergic of all the colorants. The eye shadows used should be powdery ones in earth tones and shades of cream and white. Mascara if used, should be of black color.

People with sensitive skin can also use mineral makeup. Mineral make up doesn’t contain any chemical ingredients and so is found to be very much suitable for sensitive skin types.

Do not apply heavy makeup. Also take care to remove all the makeup before you go to bed. By following the above tips, you can very well put make up on sensitive skin without the fear of acne or allergies.
