Natural Methods of Repairing Damaged Hair

December 29, 2009

Hair is damaged everyday by heat and hair products. Sometimes it is good to give your hair a spa day care. We do it for our nails and our backs.

We go to the salon to have our styles, which further damages it. But we rarely schedule a day for our hair to receive some extra pampering. It is easy to do this at home.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a great way to make your hair supple and shiny. Shampoo your hair like you do on a normal day. Rinse the shampoo off and then pour about a ½ a cup of vinegar into your hair. After five minutes, rinse your hair with water.  Now use your normal conditioner as you usually would.

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is a great way to make your hair lustrous. Apply generously throughout your hair and let it sit for fifteen minutes. Rinse it out with water. Then wash and condition your hair as you normally would. Egg yolks are a wonderful conditioner for your hair. If possible, purchase a organic mayonnaise free of chemicals and preservatives. You don’t need those in your hair.

No Blow Drying

After washing, let your hair dry naturally. Instead of exposing it to heat on this day, give your hair a total break. Let it fully incorporate the moisture and conditioning and repair itself a little. Try to just let your hair be for awhile.  When you do have to style your hair next, try a style that does not pull on it too much or require too much heat. Decreasing the amount of heat your hair is exposed to will significantly decrease how damaged it feels and looks.

Henna Dye

Dyeing your hair causes a lot of damage to your hair. It dries out the hair, making it brittle. Henna is a natural dye which does not harm hair. As a dye, it helps remove dandruff and conditions the hair.

You can purchase henna powder at shops specializing in African, East Indian or Arabian products. Mix 50 grams of yogurt, with a half of cup of lemon juice and 500 grams of Henna. Apply to the hair and scalp and let sit for an hour. Rinse and shampoo hair thoroughly. You can do this often as you want, once a week should be sufficient.
