Natural Ways to Reduce Cholesterol Levels

March 3, 2010

Do not be perturbed if you have been asked to lower your cholesterol levels. To get back both the types of cholesterol, the bad (LDL) and the good (HDL), into optimum levels, there are natural remedies.

Without your knowledge you might already be practicing some of these remedies at home, because they are after all foods that you use daily, with some changes in your diet.

Here are the details:

1. Omega-3  essential Fatty Acids:
To lower your LDL, and at the same time increase HDL, Omega-3 essential fatty acids are the answer. Where do you find these? You do not have to seek them far; they are available in natural foods like Fish, Walnuts, Almonds  and
Specialty eggs like Egglands Best.

2. Soluble Fiber:
Soluble fiber removes bad cholesterol by sticking to it and conveying it away from blood. Do not confuse this with insoluble fiber, which does not lower cholesterol. If your diet has soluble fiber which is found in our everyday food items, it will do a world of good to your heart. They can be found in Whole grain breads, Fruits like apples and oranges, Oatmeal, Flax seed which also supplies high dosages of Omega-3.

3. Antioxidants:
By thinning cholesterol, these ensure that cholesterol does not clog the arteries, even as they reduce blood pressure. You can find these Antioxidants in many tasty food items, but some juices supposed to be having high antioxidant quantities may also have lots of sugar. They can be found in Berries, like cranberries and blueberries, A glass of Red Wine, not more than 4oz., Dark Chocolates, Red beans or other dried Beans.

Lowering cholesterol is merely eating a changed diet – as simple as that!  No one would have thought that these foods lower cholesterol, but as you start using them in your diet, you will find yourself winning in your battle against high cholesterol.

If “bad” cholesterol continues to be high in your blood, remember it can result in a number of health problems, especially relating to your heart.  It is therefore essential that you change your lifestyle and opt for a diet which lowers cholesterol and assures you a healthy heart. All this, without the help of any drugs.
