Overcome Shyness and Social Phobia
Some people are introvert and have a reserved temperament. They suffer from shyness while dealing publicly and fear social gatherings. Social phobia can be an obstacle in your professional and personal growth. In order to lead a contented life, it is of utmost importance to overcome social anxiety and shyness.
Identify your strengths and weaknesses. Get to know yourself better. In order to overcome your shyness, foster your strengths to conquer your vulnerabilities. It does not imply that you should be meek and submissive. But you can focus on your strengths to compensate for the lack of certain attitudes.
Figure out the reason behind your shyness. Acknowledge your social phobias be it minor or major and identify the triggers. You may be shy of being the one in spotlight or you may suffer from anxiety attacks when left in an unknown environment. An understanding of your shyness will give you the cue to handle it more effectively.
Accept your social phobias and work on them. However don’t be too harsh on yourself. You may be afraid of speaking up in a social gathering but then you possess the ability to be a good listener. Grasp as much as you can from conversations of other people. Being shy does not mean you cannot be successful. You are a being of huge potential.
Your shyness can prove to be your greatest strength if channelized effectively. It can provide you the necessary determination to attain your goals and perform incredible tasks.
If you think that you can overcome all the aspects in one single trial, you are mistaken. You will end up burdening yourself and feeling let down. Focus on one area and channelize all your energy in improving yourself in that particular area.
Don’t be unrealistic in your expectations. For instance if you want to improve your communication skills, work hard on it. Once you have achieved success, move on to the next area to be improved, say networking with people.
If your social phobias are getting too serious read self help books and take counseling sessions. Don’t allow others to harm your self-esteem. Live your life with confidence.
