Peeling Nails? Here Are Few Reasons Why It’s Happening
While well-groomed nails make you beautiful, chipped, brittle or peeling nails are disliked. Peeling of nails is caused by the reduced natural oil and moisture content in the hands.
It can be due to many factors including diet, climate change, medicines that you are consuming, Psoriasis, infections of fungal nature, exposure to chemicals and wrong type of treatment. Fingernails will not peel if they are moisturized regularly with creams and oil. You must know the causes for peeling if you want to treat them.
Causes For Peeling Of Nails
Nail peeling can happen due to changes in weather. Cold and dry conditions can dehydrate the nail-plate, resulting in flaking and peeling. When the weather is cold, use moisturizers after hand wash and use gloves to protect nails from chilly weather.
When your diet does not have the required nutrients which are required for nail structure, peeling of nails can happen. For healthy nails, you must have ample supply of nutrients like Sulfur, Biotin and Vitamin-B, which can be taken from vegetables and fruits. A good diet will ensure that your nails do not chip easily.
Usually medicines can dry the skin and also nails. At times, peeling of nails can be caused by medicines you are taking. Therefore, before taking the medicines you should enquire about such side effects and in case you are compelled to use these medicines, try to keep the nails and hands fully moisturized all the while.
Continue to supplement with a good diet that contains the necessary nutrients that are beneficial to your nails. Alternatively, you can consider applying a good quality nail strengthener.
Fungal attacks and Psoriasis can cause peeled nails. If you have these problems follow doctor’s advice. Anti-fungal preparations can help you. Rub these on your nails as well to ease off the fungal and yeast attacks.
When you are cleaning your house, chemicals in the premises and the cleaning products can damage the nails and peeling can happen. When you are cleaning the house use gloves, similarly gloves should also be used during your daily chores.
Nail plate gets separated in the layers due to over immersion in water. Don’t soak your hands in water for long time, as it can result in peeling of nails. But if your job requires your hands to be in contact with water frequently, either by washing or immersion, you should take some evasive actions against weakened nails.
You are advised to wear gloves where possible. Moisturize your hands frequently every day to ease the adverse effects on your nails. If you are spending over an hour in swimming pools, you should rub Olive Oil or petroleum jelly onto the nails, before you enter the swimming pool.
Acrylic nails may look chic but they tend to thin out your nails when they are removed. You can stimulate back your nails’ good growth with the proper diet. Sometimes nail treatment can also result in peeling because such applications contain formaldehyde, which can dry and irritate the nails. Use products which do not have these contents.
