Constipation is one of the many physical conditions that a pregnant woman has to endure. However, why suffer when you can prevent it in the first place?
How can pregnant women become prone to constipation?
Pregnancy actually can cause serious hormonal imbalance in women physically, mentally and emotionally. Constipation is one of the results. The iron supplement you are taking, and as your stomach and digestive organs prepares for this huge change, constipation easily occurs.
Your eating habits play a significant contributing factor in constipation. If you are still giving your body alcoholic and caffeine induced beverages, and less fiber food content, you will have to suffer the consequences.
Actually, constipation can be prevented if you are disciplined and religiously follow a good eating habit and supply your body the right amount of fluid. It is not something that you need to cure. It is something that you need to prevent.
What can you do to prevent constipation?
On the first take, protect yourself from its painful onslaught by making adjustments in your food intake. Include fruits and vegetables in your diet that are rich in fiber. You can cook it, consume raw if possible or extract juices.
You can ask the help of your doctor or dietitian in choosing the best food combination. The internet is pretty informative when it comes to ready made meals. Find the ones that are half cooked so that you can add your own flavor.
From time to time, eat cereal and whole grain instead of rice, as these are highly fibrous. You should eat on time and avoid snacks at odd intervals. Only eat that much which your digestive system can manage.
Provide sufficient water to your body. Incessant urinating may annoy you, but it will really work wonders to prevent constipation. If you are fond of tea and coffee, you may have to give it up until you deliver your baby. Besides, it really is not good for your baby’s development.
Exercising may appeal less to you but apart from weight maintenance benefits, exercising can help in food digestion and encourage daily bowel movement. Walking is the easiest physical activity you can undertake to keep constipation at bay.
