Prevent Diabetes Problems: Keep Your Feet And Skin Healthy
Diabetes is common, and one of the worst diseases. If the level of sugar in the blood increases, then diabetes occurs. This disease can cause harm to many vital organs, such as the heart and kidneys, as well as blood vessels and eyes. Problems with the heart and blood vessels can lead to even bigger problems, like heart attacks and strokes.
But it is not just the heart, kidneys or the blood vessels that gets affected by diabetes. There are other side effects of this disease. It can cause skin damage and harm your feet.
Diabetes damages the nerves of the feet. If the nerves are damaged then it is impossible for one to feel pain in their feet or any other damage, like a cut or sore. And if you do not feel the pain then there is every possibility that you will not know something is wrong with your feet, and that can lead to bigger problems. Diabetes also makes the blood flow of the feet very poor, which makes any wound healing slow.
So you see feet need special care, just like your skin or any other parts of your body. Follow some simple routines and your feet will be healthy.
Wash your feet daily with warm water. Make sure the water is not too hot and dry your feet properly. Do not leave the toes or the areas between the toes wet.
Check your feet and see if there are any injuries, like cuts, blisters, sores and other problems.
For those with dry skin, do not forget to apply lotion or moisturizer to your feet after showering. But avoid applying lotion between the toes.
After showering, gently file calluses or corns. Use either an emery board or a pumice stone. Make sure you do this after showering.
Do not walk barefoot. Always wear shoes or slippers. That way your feet will be safe.
Consult a doctor if you have any kind of foot problem.
Always buy shoes that fit your size. New shoes take some time to break, so wear them for 1-2 hours a day for a week.
Follow these simple rules and your feet will be safe, always.
