Savvy Decor Tips To Brighten Up Your Room

By on September 23, 2011

Is your room looking dull and lifeless? Brighten up your décor with colours and elements and bring cheers to your uninteresting space with ideas that are easy to implement and are cheap. Here are some tips to add accessories, paints and furnishings to achieve a fresh décor style.

Coffee Table Decor

Bring order on your coffee table with a tray! Arrange a stack of books, a decorative object like shell or inlaid box, your remotes and a bouquet of bright flowers in a round or square tray. You can even divide a big table into two or three parts to decorate separately and balance the proportions well. Separate trays can be used for each part. Or some items can be placed on the table directly next to the tray. Do not make the arrangement too clumsy or too high. Add colourful accents, combine different elements like shells, wood, baskets etc to bring in colour and order to your room.

Work Space Wonder

If you have a small home office or hobby desk in the living room, keep it tidy and uncluttered. Use discarded cups, containres or juice glasses to store your pencils, pens, paper clips, staplers, markers, scissors or craft items. Cover old boxes with craft papers to store your essential items. Keep all loose papers in folders.

Lamp Glam

We often fail to be creative with our lamps. By changing the shade, you can give the lamp a new lease of life and modify the look of the room to a great extent. Go for patterned shades. You can even stencil a design on your own. What about doing some hand embroidery on your cream or white shade?

A few dots or a border with metallic colours will add a glittering touch. You can change the harps, i.e. metal piece that holds the shade, to alter the height of the lamp. If you are buying a new lamp, consider buying one with a ceramic base with some hand-painted motif. It will usher in an Oriental touch to your interior.

A Cozy Nook

Create a comfortable corner for reading books or watching television. Place your tall floor lamp next to your lounger or daybed. A few cushions, a side table for your books and coffee mug, a plant in a basket and a cozy blanket at your feet will bring a dreary corner alive.

Shower Power

Bathroom is often the most overlooked space in a home. Give a fresh look to your bath area with a new shower curtain and towels in matching colour. Have you ever thought of a sage green curtain with a chocolate brown pattern for your shower? Co-ordinate with green and brown towels for an unusual but attractive new look.

Floral Splendour

Flowers are great mood enhancers. They inject bright colours to any space. Decorate a bunch of roses in an old teapot. Or get a bouquet of seasonal flowers from the market or your garden, put them in glazed vases and place on your centre table, console, vanity or even in the bathroom for a soothing and aesthetic look.

Photo Session

Take out some interesting photos from your album or box and display them in frames on the wall or on shelves. Black and white or sepia toned pictures will look cohesive when grouped together. You can even give a character to your bare walls by creating a picture gallery by combining big, small and medium frames.
