Set A Personal Record In Any Exercise
December 26, 2008
It is a good thing to exercise. Everybody knows that but not everybody is motivated to exercise regularly. It takes certain amount of motivation to keep to a regular exercise routine. If you happen to maintain a regular exercise routine, then a great motivation would be to set and then break your own personal record in the exercise of your choice.
Set a record
The first step would be obviously to set a record. Setting a new personal record is difficult for some people to do because they fail to follow the one golden rule for it. They fail to rest between workouts.
This may seem to be absurd but the fact is that you need to rest so that your body recovers and can cope with your exercise routine. Do not fear of losing any muscle because you won’t.
Work toward your own record
There are several benefits of lifting in your strongest range of motion. When you lift in the strong range, you prevent the weight from entering the weak range. This is good because most of the injuries occur in this range.
Use the same weight that is your present personal record to load the bar. Now if you lift this weight in your strongest range, you will find it easy. Now you can add more weight. Remember if you do not rest your body, you will not be able to break this record.
Return to the gym
When you return to the gym, warm up as you usually do. Then try to lift the weight you had previously lifted before you went to rest. If you can 2 reps with that weight, it means you have rested enough. If however, you are not able to it then go home and take rest. Your body needs to recover.
If however, you have rested well enough to do the 2 reps then add 5% more weight and do 5 reps. You can keep adding the weight till you can do no more than 2 reps.
The fame time
Now is the time you can set your new record. When you return to gym you will be surprised to find that you can lift more than you did.
You can use these techniques on just about any exercise. Keep to it and you will be a record breaker in your own favourite exercise.
