Signs And Symptoms Of Thrush
Thrush is an extremely common yeast infection which normally affects the oral cavity of a person. Small amounts of yeast are present in the body at all times. However, if this yeast is allowed to multiply at an abnormally fast rate, the result is the occurrence of a yeast infection in the human body. One such kind of yeast infection is thrush.
It normally affects very young children or people who use braces or dentures. People who have a weakened immune system are also more prone to suffering from this infection than others. Thrush causes a great deal of pain and discomfort for the affected person.
The signs of this condition are very easy to identify. Most of the treatment for this condition involves the consumption or local application of medicines which destroy the excessive amounts of yeast in the area. Thrush is not a serious health condition and the infection can be eliminated within a few days.
Common Symptoms Of Thrush
Lesions Throughout The Oral Cavity
This is one of the distinguishing symptoms of thrush. The affected person notices the appearance of numerous lesions along the inner wall of the mouth. These lesions appear to be white in colour. The tongue, throat and palette are also often affected by these lesions.
These lesions are extremely painful and the affected person finds it very difficult to consume food or water. These lesions begin to burn when any food particles brush against them. In some cases, these lesions even bleed and this causes severe pain and discomfort for the affected person. As a result, the patient is not able to consume a sufficient amount of food and this leads to weakness.
Severe Pain While Swallowing
Eating and drinking becomes a very painful task for the patient. This is because the entire oral cavity and the throat are covered with lesions and blisters. The entire oral cavity is extremely sensitive during this time and the slightest friction causes immense pain which is often unbearable for the patient.

The patient has to consume liquids as far as possible because solid food is difficult to swallow. Soups and juices are often recommended for those who suffer from thrush as such foods cause the least amount of pain while passing through the oesophagus.
Sores In And Around The Mouth
Besides the appearance of lesions in the oral cavity, people might also notice the appearance of blisters in the mouth. The tongue and tonsils might also get affected by these painful blisters. Blisters might also appear along the outer surface of the mouth and on the lips. This makes it difficult for the person to eat and drink normally. Such people have to avoid the consumption of any hot foods as this often leads to severe pain and burning when it touches the inflamed oral region.
Dryness And Loss Of Taste In The Mouth
When the mouth is affected by these lesions and blisters, the person often loses the ability to taste food. The entire oral cavity also becomes very dry and cracks appear along the outer surface of the mouth. These cracks are very painful and cause a severe burning sensation in the area.
