Simple Remedies To Get Rid Of Excessive Dry Skin
Excessive dry skin is an irritating, unattractive and uncomfortable condition that occurs mostly due to the skin’s inability to produce sebum (natural oil) in adequate quantity, which is vital for soft and smooth skin.
Environmental factors like hot, cold and humid weather are very much responsible for extremely dry skin in most of the cases. But lack of proper skin care and poor habits like excessive bathing, improper diet, and use of harsh soap that steals the natural oil of the skin can also cause dry and dehydrated skin.
The dry and dead skin cells make a person’s appearance dull, unattractive and scaly. Many treatments are available with dermatologists for chronic dry skin and often it is treated with over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
However, there are effective natural treatments and remedies available to treat very dry skin. If you have serious skin disease like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema, your dermatologist may prescribe prescription creams and ointment along with home care.
Sometimes excessive dry skin causes red itchy skin known as dermatitis. The skin gets cracked and bleeds and chances of skin infection arise. In such conditions, doctors prescribe wet dressings and lotions containing Hydrocortisone to prevent infection.

Moisturize
When you have excessive dry skin, you need to keep your skin clean and moist. Hydrating your skin is necessary to prevent moisture loss. Moisturize your skin. Moisturizers hydrate the skin and provide a seal that prevent the water from escaping from the skin.
Too much washing of body and face with moisture robbing facial cleanser and bath soap and use of hard water strips away the moisture from your skin. Stay away from taking frequent hot water bath and long showers.
Use beauty soaps with added moisturizers, like Dove or Neutrogena, and facial cleanser rich in emollients while bathing. Avoid the use of deodorant and antibacterial detergents which are too harsh for dry skin.
You can prepare your own cleanser which will keep your skin clean without robbing the moisture. Take ½ cup olive oil, 2 tbsp glycerin, 1 tbsp mild liquid soap or face wash and combine those with 2 tbsp of water.
Make a smooth solution by mixing them well. Use this cleanser to moisturize your skin immediately after bathing to trap moisture in the skin cells. Your skin will remain hydrated for long.
You can also use coconut oil, jojoba oil or olive oil daily to moisturize your skin. These oils contain polyphenols that act as antioxidants and keeps the skin moisturized.
